Gemstones are octagonal gems frequently dropped from chests and money bags. They come in a variety of colours, namely green, blue, yellow, red, purple, orange, and silver. Each colour listed is worth more than the last, in the order they appear. These values can be seen in the table below.

Uses
If you came here because you don't trust the description, it's true. They really don't do anything other than sell well and look pretty, unless you count bragging rights. They don't even function that well as gifts. You can sell Gemstones with the Sell Crate, or to Ferra when she's behind the counter of the Smithy for 1.5 times the Sell Crate price.
Trivia
- Gemstones are a reference to Rupees from the "The Legend of Zelda" series. They share a similar shape and a similar purpose (being a store of value), as well as several of the same colors.
- Specifically in the games "The Wind Waker" and "Twilight Princess", rupees of green, blue, yellow, red, purple, orange, and silver are worth 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200 respectively. These are almost the same colours and in the same order as Gemstones, but Gemstones are worth much more.
- In newer games, the colours and values are different, and no longer match. The colours are green, blue, red, purple, silver, and gold, being worth 1, 5, 20, 50, 100, and 300 respectively
